France 1 Belgium 0 (St Petersburg)
A single goal against Belgium sent France into the Final of the World Cup. In the first half, both teams had periods of pressure without breaking the deadlock. In the 19th minute, Hazard got into the box from the left and let fly, but his goal-bound shot was headed over to safety. Two minutes later Alderweireld turned in the box and fired a snapshot but Lloris dived brilliantly to make a fingertip save, while at the other end in the 39th minute, Mbappe fed Pavard but Courtois stretched out a long leg to deny him from the edge of the 6-yard box. In the 51st minute, Samuel Umtiti got onto a corner-kick to head in at the near post and give France the advantage and 5 minutes later Mbappe's delightful backheel on the edge of the box presented Giroud with a chance, but his effort was blocked by a last-ditch tackle. Lloris got down to double-fist Witsel's thunderous shot in the 81st minute and in stoppage time with France attempting to wrap things up Courtois got down to hold onto a shot from Griezmann and in the dying seconds tipped Tolisso's low shot past the post.
