Honours even
Japan 2 Senegal 2 (Ekaterinburg) Japan and Senegal shared the points in a 2-2 draw at the top of the table in group H. In the 11th minute Japan failed to head a cross away and a low shot was punched by Kawashima and deflected in off the leg of Sadio Mane but in the 35th minute Takashi Inui picked up Nagatomo's ball in the box, opened his body and sent it to the far corner of the net. In the 64th minute Osako ran onto a long ball and backheeled it into the box for Inui to stroke onto the crossbar, but in the 71st minute Senegal retook the lead when Moussa Wague ran onto a ball played across goal and knocked it into the roof of the net. Japan equalised 7 minutes later when the Senegalese keeper failed to claim a high ball into the box and Takashi pulled the ball back from the by-line for substitute Keisuke Honda to score and become Asia's top scorer in World Cup history. |

Poland crash out
Colombia bounced back from their defeat against Japan with a convincing 3-0 victory over Poland. After a lot of running by both sides Colombia took control in the 40th minute when Rodriguez lifted the ball into the 6-yard box for the towering Yerry Mina to head in. A long ball in the 58th minute reached Lewandowsky, but Colombian keeper Ospina bravely got in his way, and in the 70th minute Colombia went further ahead when Quintero passed the ball to Rademel Falcoa who confidently stroked it past Szczesny with the outside of his right foot. Five minute later Guardado received the ball in acres of space and went on to place it past the keeper. There was no consolation for Poland as a thunderous shot by Lewandowski was tipped over the bar in the last minute. |
