Semi final

Croatian comeback denies England

Croatia 1 England 1 (2-1 aet) (Moscow)

Croatia reached the final of the World Cup for the first time after defeating England 2-1 in extra-time. England got off to a perfect start when Kieran Trippier lifted the ball expertly over the wall and past the keeper in the 5th minute and should have doubled their lead after half an hour when Lingard played in Kane who couldn't slide the ball past Subasic and could only hit the post from a yard out when he picked up the rebound on the by-line, but with 22 minutes left, the boot of Ivan Perisic beat an English head to a cross and the score was level. Four minutes after the goal, Perisic got into the box and struck the post with a shot across goal, but Rebic could only guide the rebound into the grateful arms of Pickford who stood firm in the 83rd minute to block an angled shot from Mandzukic. Stones saw his header cleared off the live in the 9th minute of extra time and just before the break Pickford acted quickly to deflect a close-range toe-poke from Mandzukic with his knee. In the 109th minute, an attempted clearance was headed back to Mario Mandzukic who beat the keeper with a shot into the far corner to shatter England's dreams and send Croatia to a meeting with France in the final.
