Third place Belgium win Bronze
Belgium 2 England 0 (St Petersburg) England finished fourth after losing 2-0 to Belgium in St Petersburg. The Belgians got off the mark after only 4 minutes when Chaldi crossed the ball from the left for Thomas Meunier to knock in from 6 yards out. England only began to show appetite in the second half and Kane almost connected when Lingard whipped in a cross in the 55th minute, but their best chance came in the 70th minute when Dier dinked the keeper after a one-two with Rashford only to be denied by a last-ditch off the line clearance from Alderweireld. Belgium counter-attacked with some delightful football that resulted in Meunier's unchallenged volley being saved by the diving Pickford in the 80th minute, but 2 minutes later Eden Hazard got into the box and beat Pickford at the near post to secure Belgium's highest ever finish in the World Cup. |
