Bayern best in Europe

Bayern Munich 2 Borussia Dortmund 1 Champions League final Wembley 25 May 2013

Arjen Robben scored a late winner as Bayern Munich beat compatriots Borussia Dortmund to win the Champions League at Wembley a year after losing the final on penalties to Chelsea. Both keepers had to be on their guards when first Robben and then Lewandowski were through for Bayern and Dortmund respectively, but despite Dortmund looking more positive in the early stages, it was Bayern who came closest when Weidenfeller blocked a Robben effort with his face just before the break.
The deadlock was broken in the on the hour when Robben received a return ball from Ribery, took the keeper to the by-line and delivered a pass into the 6-yard box for Mandzukic to open the scoring, but 8 minutes later Dante was guilty of a clumsy challenge in the box and Guendogan sent Neuer the wrong way from the spot. In the 72nd minute Muller ran past the keeper but his goal-bound effort was brilliantly cleared off the line by the sliding Subotic ahead of the onrushing Robben. Weidenfeller dived to his left to fist away a sweet strike from Alaba in the 76th minute and kept out a thumping shot from Schweinsteiger in the 87th minute, but a minute from time Robben picked up a backheel on the edge of the box, skipped past 2 defenders and rolled the ball past the keeper into the back of the net for the winner.

Chelsea grab Europa Cup

Chelsea 2 Benfica 1 (Europa League final, Amsterdam 15 May 2013)
Branislav Ivanovic headed a last gasp winner to break Benfica hearts and win the Europa League for Chelsea in Amsterdam. A huge throw from Petr Cech in the 60th minute fell to Fernando Torres who showed strength and composure to get past a defender and round Artur in the Benfica goal and open the scoring, but 8 minutes later Benfica were awarded a penalty for handball and Oscar Cardozo smashed the ball down the centre for the equaliser. Cech tipped over Cardozo's dipping volley in the 81st minute and Lampard slammed the cross bar from 25 yards with 2 minutes remaining, but deep into stoppage time Chelsea won a corner kick, from which Ivanovic leapt high to send a looping header over the head of Artur into the far corner giving Chelsea interim manager Raffa Benitez another European trophy.
