England in control

England 4 Moldova 0 - World Cup qualifier Wembley 6 September 2013

Danny Welbeck scored twice to put England firmly in control of the match and send them to the top of their group with a 4-0 win over Moldova. Steven Gerrard opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a daisy-cutter from 25 yards that brushed the post as it beat the outstretched Namasco who in the 26th minute could only parry Walcott's shot onto the head of Rickie Lambert for a tap-in after sustained pressure from England. Moments after picking up a controversial yellow card that will rule him out of England's vital match in Ukraine on Tuesday, Danny Welbeck ran onto a long ball from Walcott, poked it past the pedestrian keeper and followed it into the net with the last kick of the half. Welbeck was at it again 5 minutes after the break when he picked up a pass from Lambert and dinked the keeper to make it 4 for England who continued to dominate without adding to their tally for the remaining 40 minutes.
On Tuesday England remained at the top of the group after a goalless draw in Ukraine.
