Chile too hot for England

England 0 Chile 2 - Friendly Wembley 15 November 2013

Alexis Sanches brushed England aside with 2 goals at Wembley as the 2 teams began their preparations for next year's World Cup. England had already tested Claudio Bravo in the Chile goal with a header from Jones when the Chileans broke through and stunned the English crowd after a good chance in the England in the penalty box was blocked and Aranguiz crossed the ball back in for Sanches to stoop and head the ball past Fraser Forster in the 7th minute. Lampard saw his long-range free kick tipped over the bar in the first half but as the hosts continued to push for an equaliser in the second half without showing much urgency, Chile accepted a gift in midfield and Sanchez was sent through to dink the keeper confidently and wrap the match up deep into stoppage time.

England lose again

England 0 Germany 1 - Friendly Wembley 19 November 2013

Germany picked up another win against England in a friendly at Wembley to hand the Brazil-bound English their second home defeat in four days. Moments after Joe Hart was forced into a save from a Per Metersacker header, the tall German captain headed the visitors into a 39th minute lead from which England failed to recover. Townsend struck the outside of the post with a 30-yarder in the 57th minute, but despite enjoying more possession that the Germans, that was the closest England came to scoring and it was Hart who was the busier of the two keepers.
