England ease past America

England 2 USA 0 (Wembley 28 May 2008 )
A goal in each half gave England a deserved 2-0 win over the United States. David Beckham who had been threatening the Americans with his set pieces delivered a free-kick into the penalty area which John Terry headed past Tim Howard in the 38th minute. A volley from Johnson flashed past the England upright a minute after the interval and substitute keeper Guzan denied Defoe in the 52nd minute, but just before the hour-mark a deft pass from Gareth Barry sent Gerrard through to slot the ball past Guzan and give England a comfortable win in this friendly international.
In other midweek international matches Vitaliy Bulyga scored twice for Belarus as they earned a 2-2 draw away to Germany. Other 2 goal heroes were Jan Koller who returned from injury to score both goals for the Czech Republic in their 2-0 win at home to Lithuania, and French debutant Batefimbi Gomis with a second-half brace giving France a 2-0 home win against Ecuador.
