Lampard beat Jens Lehmann at the near post in the 9th minute after he was skilfully put through by Micah Richards, but when Robinson misjudged a Schneider cross in the 26th minute the ball fell to Kevin Kuranyi who accepted the gift and put Germany on equal terms with a tap-in against the run of play. Christian Pander scored a screamer in the 39th minute on his debut for Germany, and a minute later Lehmann made a good save from a Michael Owen header. Owen should have scored just before the break, but having got past Lehmann he lost his composure and found the angle too tight. Kieron Dyer connected with a low pass from Beckham in the 66th minute, but missed the target. John Terry saw his header cleared off the line in the 76th minute and 2 minutes later the lively Shaun Wright-Phillips tested Lehmann with a low shot. Kuranyi was the main threat on the counter-attack in the later stages, but the first-half goals were enough to give Germany the win at Wembley.
