Young England goal earns the points

England 1 Wales 0 (Wembley Euro qualifier 6 September 2011)
Ashley Young scored the only goal of the match at Wembley to give England the edge over Wales. Stewart Downing's runs at the Welsh defence on the right finally paid off in the 35th minute when he pulled the ball back from the by-line for Ashley Young to fire home. Wales had their moments in the 2nd half as England failed to impress and could have left Wembley with a point but Robert Earnshaw missed a glorious chance when he fired over the bar with the England goal at his mercy 14 minutes from time. England will travel to Montenegro next month needing a point to secure a place in the finals.
