On the same evening a single goal for Italy at home to Slovenia was enough to see the Azzuri qualify while the impressive Estonians kept their hopes alive with the 4-1 derailing of Northern Ireland in Tallinn. The Irish Republic kept another clean sheet to earn a point in Russia while Armenia celebrated an amazing 4-0 victory in Slovakia climbing to within a point of the Irish. Turkey earned a point with a goalless draw in Austria while in group D a goalless draw for France left their Romanian hosts short as Bosnia and Herzegovina picked up 3 points in their 1-0 home win over Belarus. The Dutch kept up their perfect record with a double strike in Finland while the same result in Moldova kept Hungary on the heels of Sweden who struck 5 times without reply in San Marino. Croatia eliminated Israel and went top with a 3-1 home win as Greece drew 1-1 in Latvia. Nicklas Bendtner scored a double for Denmark in Copenhagen against Norway to give the Dames an advantage over their Scandinavian rivals in their battle for top spot in group H with Portugal. Spain celebrated qualification with a 6-0 win over little Liechtenstein while a single goal gave Scotland 3 points at home to Lithuania.
World Cup qualifiers in Asia saw Australia win 3-1 in Saudi Arabia with 2 goals from Josh Kennedy and the U.A.E. suffer a shock 3-1 defeat in Lebanon while Oman lost 3-0 in Thailand. Japan drew 1-1 in Uzbekistan and Jordan overcame the visiting Chinese 2-1 while Iraq won 2-0 in Singapore and Indonesia lost by the same result in Bahrain. There were 1-1 draws for Iran in Qatar and South Korea in Kuwait while North Korea earned a 1-0 home win over Tajikistan.
Among friendly matches Germany draw 2-2 in Poland while Argentina beat Nigeria 3-1 in Bangladesh. Belgium defeated their American guests with a single goal and Ukraine were taken apart 4-0 away to the Czech Republic.
