Lightning strikes twice

In a match that was suspended for 55 minutes due to lightning and heavy rain, France struck twice in 3 minutes to put a damper on hosts Ukraine. Both keepers successfully kept a clean sheet in the first half, but in the 53rd minute Menez drifted inside the box and fired past Pyatov, and 3 minutes later Cabaye got the better of his marker on the edge of the box and rolled the ball into the corner of the net.

England comeback sends Swedes packing

Sweden gave England a scare but ended up losing and out of the competition. Andy Carroll rose high to power in a header from Gerrard's cross in the 23rd minute, but 4 minutes into the 2nd half a Swedish free-kick came off the wall and was sent back towards goal for Mellberg to score off the desperate Johnson and the post, and in the 59th minute a free-kick from the left found Mellberg unchallenged who headed down across goal past Hart. Isaksson saved brilliantly from Terry's close-range effort and the resulting corner fell to Walcott whose swerving shot from outside the area in the 64th minute moments after being introduced to the game beat the Swedish keeper for the equaliser, and with 12 minutes of the match remaining Walcott ran into the box and pulled the ball back from the byline for Welbeck to backheel in on the turn for the winner.
