Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice as Portugal came from a goal down to beat the disconsolate Dutch. Rafael van der Vaart curled the ball beautifully into the corner of the net from out side the box in the 11th minute, but in the 28th minute Cristiano Ronaldo timed his run to pick up a through ball from Joao Pereira and knock it past Stekelenburg in the Dutch goal. In the 72nd minute Ronaldo raced down the left and laid the ball on a plate for Nani whose effort was somehow kept out by Stekelenburg, but 2 minutes later Nani returned the favour in a swift counter attack and Ronaldo took his time in the box to unsettle a defender and pick his spot beyond the keeper for the winner securing Portugal's place in the next round.

Germany made it 3 wins out of 3 to top the group and send Denmark home. A low cross from Muller was knocked back by Gomez into the path of Lukas Podolski who smashed it ruthlessly home from close range in the 19th minute, but 5 minutes later Krohn-Dehli headed Bendtner's header in from the 6 yard line to give Denmark hope until 10 minutes from time when Lars Bender received the ball in the box and rolled it into the corner of the net to decide the outcome of the match.
