Czechs bounce back

The Czech Republic put their devastating defeat to Russia behind them with a 2-1 win over Greece. An explosive start saw the Czechs take a 2 goal lead within 6 minutes as Hubschman threaded the ball through to Jiracek who fired it past Chalkias in the 3rd minute and in the 6th minute Gebre Selassie received the ball on the byline and pulled it back into the danger area where Pilar bundled it in. Greece reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute when Cech fumbled an innocuous ball into the box, gifting Gekas a stab at the open goal which he took without hesitation.

Gutsy Poles hold Russia

Co hosts Poland put on a spirited performance to earn a point against the powerful Russians. Malafeev had to be on his toes in the Russian goal, but it was the Russian who lead at the break when Dzagoev got onto an Arshavin free-kick to flick a header past Tyton in the 37th minute. Blaszczykowski cut inside and unleashed an unstoppable shot past the impressive Malafeev from just outside the box in the 57th minute to deny Russia a 2nd straight win and spark celebrations in Poland.
