Late strike gives Portugal hope

Niklas Bendtner scored twice as Denmark came back from 2 down but lost to a late Portuguese goal. In the 24th minute Pepe met a corner-kick to beat the Danish keeper with a header at the near post and Portugal doubled their lead 12 minutes later when Postiga received the ball just outside the 6 yard box which he slammed into the roof of the net. Five minutes before the interval Krohn-Dehli headed the ball over the keeper for Bendtner to head over the line, and 2 minutes after Ronaldo had come face to face with the Danish keeper and knocked the ball wide, with 10 minutes remaining Patricio could only push Bendtner's firm header in off the post, but 3 minutes from time Varela completely mis-kicked with his left foot only to whack the ball past Andersen with his right and give Portugal the win.

Gomez double leaves Dutch pointless

The Netherlands were left on the brink of elimination after Mario Gomez scored twice to give bitter rivals Germany their second win in the group. With van Persie having missed an early chance in front of goal and Özil hitting the post with a low shot from outside the area moments later, Gomez took Schweinsteiger's 24th minute pass on the turn and slid the ball past Stekelenburg, and smashed the ball into the far corner from another Schweinsteiger pass in the 37th minute to give the Germans a healthy lead at half time. Neuer got down to save van Persie's shot in the 58th minute but was beaten in the 73rd minute when the Dutchman picked the ball up on the left, made his way towards the 18-yard area and smashed it in from 25 yards.
