Quarter final Warsaw

Ronaldo the difference

Cristiano Ronaldo struck the post in each half and scored the winner against the Czechs as Portugal became the first team into the semis. Ronaldo brought the ball down and turned beautifully in the box to hit the post in first-half stoppage time and clipped the base of the post with a free kick 4 minutes after the break, but with Petr Cech in fine form, the match remained goalless until the 79th minute when Moutinho whipped in a cross and Ronaldo flung himself to head downwards and high and into the net to take Portugal into the last four.

Powerful Germans end Greek Euro dreams

Germany swept aside the spirited Greeks to book a place in the semi-finals. It took the dominant Germans 39 minutes to break the Greeks down when Philipp Lahm smacked the ball in from outside the area, but 10 minutes into the 2nd half, in a quick counter-attack Salpingidis delivered the ball into the 6 yard box for Samaras to poke past Neuer and give Greece a glimmer of hope. Five minutes later Sami Khedira ran onto a Boateng cross to score with a thumping volley and in the 68th minute Klose rose to head in from a corner kick. In the 74th minute Greek keeper Sifakis blocked Klose's effort but Reus smashed the rebound in off the crossbar to put the match beyond the Greeks, though Greece did reduce the deficit 2 minutes from time when they were rewarded a soft penalty for handball and Salpingidis sent Neuer the wrong way from the spot.
