Quarter final

Comeback kings do it again

Turkey equalised with the last kick of the match and beat Croatia on penalties to reach the semi finals of Euro 2008. Croatia had the best chance of an uneventful first half when Modric delivered the ball across goal in the 18th minute but Olic could only smash it against the underside of the bar from inside the 6 yard box and Kranjcar headed the rebound over. Turkey survived some nervous moments in the 2nd hald and Rustu made a diving save to palm away a well taken free-kick from Srna in the 84th minute. As Croatia continued to push forward and create chances deep into stoppage time, Turkey held on to force extra-time in which they seemed to emerge with a new lease of life and for the first time enjoyed more possession that their opponents, but in the last minute of extra time Rustu rushed to the byline and was caught out by Modric who crossed the ball onto the head of Klasnic to score what seemed to be the winner for Croatia. But as the Croatian fans celebrated their team's semi-final place, a long ball from Rustu fell to Semih who whacked it into the roof of the net with the last kick of the match. In the penalty shootout Mordic and Rakitic missed the target for Croatia, and with Turkey having been successful from the spot, it was left to Petric to give Croatia a lifeline, but Rustu dived to his right to make the save and send the Turkish fans into delirium. (Turkey 1 Croatia 1, Turkey win on penalties)
