Brazil too hot for Chile

Saturday 7 July 2007 Venezuela
Brazil 6-1 Chile

Brazil cruised into the semi-finals with a 6-1 demolition of Chile.
A corner-kick in the 16th minute was headed onto Juan who nodded Brazil into the lead. Baptista drove the ball in off the post in the 23rd minute and 5 minutes later Brazil had the match sewn up when Robinho rolled the ball past the keeper from outside the area. Five minutes into the second half Robinho ran onto a low cross at the far post to net his second of the night. In the 68th minute the Chilean keeper blocked a header from Gilberto, but Josue reacted quickly to put Brazil 5 up. Suazo pulled one back for Chile beating Doni with a delicate chip in the 75th minute. Vagner Love got onto the score sheet in the 84th minute after a give-and-go with Elano to cap a brilliant performance by Brazil.

End of the road for Venezuela

Saturday 7 July 2007 Venezuela
Venezuela 1-4 Uruguay

Copa America is over for the hosts after a 4-1 defeat to Uruguay.
Uruguay started positively with Forlan twice testing the keeper and missing a good chance in the first 10 minutes of the match. It took Uruguay 38 minutes to open the scoring when Forlan received a through ball and slipped it past Vega, but 3 minutes later Arango drove the ball home from a free-kick to get the home crowd singing again. Uruguay where back on top in the 65th minute when Garcia curled the ball beautifully into the top corner of the net. Rodriguez beat the keeper at the near post with a low shot in the 86th minute and Forlan pounced on a rebound from the keeper to bury the ball along with the hosts in stoppage time. Venezuela will bow out with pride, having made history by getting further than ever before in this tournament.
