Hosts draw opener

Tuesday 26 June 2007 Venezuela
Venezuela 2-2 Bolivia

Venezuela were 6 minutes away from a historic win in their first match as Copa America hosts .
The Venezuelans started nervously but Maldanado gave them the lead with a tidy finish in the 21st minute. Moreno equalized for Bolivia in the 38th minute when his low shot was deflected into the net. Paez latched onto a through ball and lifted it past the keeper to put the hosts back into the lead in the 56th minute, but with 6 minutes remaining a mistake in midfield allowed Bolivia to break through and cross the ball which Arce got a foot to for a share of the spoils.

Perfect start for Peru

Tuesday 26 June 2007 Venezuela
Peru 3-0 Uruguay

Peru started the 2007 Copa America with an impressive 3-0 win over Uruguay.
After a slow start Peru opened the scoring with a powerful header by Villalta which the goalkeeper could only palm into his own net. Peru thought they had doubled the lead 5 minutes later but were unlucky to have their goal disallowed for offside. Estoyanoff unleashed a long-range shot on the stroke of half time which was tipped over the bar by the Peruvian keeper who had had very little to do in the first half. Uruguay came out in the second half determined to turn the match around, and created some chances, but saw their hopes evaporate in the 69th minute when substitute Marino smashed the ball past Carini in the Uruguayan goal. With 2 minutes remaining Mendoza squared the ball across the goal for Guerrero to tap in the 3rd for Peru.
