Argentina win top match

Thursday 5 July 2007 Venezuela
Argentina 1-0 Paraguay

The match to decide the top team of group C ended in a victory for Argentina.
Paraguay would have claimed top spot with a draw, but as the match grew older Argentina became more uncomfortable with this concept and Alfio Basile made some inspirational substitutions, bringing on Messi and Mascherano. It was Liverpool player Mascherano who scored the decider when he passed the ball into the back of the net with an accurate shot from just outside the area in the 78th minute. After 3 matches, Argentina are the only team with a 100% record. They will next face Peru in the quarter final match.

Americans finish bottom

Thursday 5 July 2007 Venezuela
Colombia 1-0 USA

USA left Copa America without a single point after losing 1-0 to Colombia.
Castrillon scored the only goal of the match in the 15th minute beating Guzan with a header. Colombia could have gone further ahead in the 35th minute when Guzan brought Rodallega down in the box, but the American keeper made amends saving his spot kick. Having failed from the penalty spot, Rodallega could have faced further embarrassment when he was forced to replace debutant keeper Zapata in goal. Zapata was dismissed for double time wasting with 4 minutes remaining, but the Americans were unable to take advantage.
