Wasteful Nigeria hit six
(Nigeria 6 Tahiti 1) Nnamdi Oduamadi claimed a hat trick as Nigeria stumbled their way to a 6-1 win over minnows Tahiti. After only 5 minutes Echiejile's tame shot took a couple of deflections past the keeper into the back of the net and 5 minutes later Oduamadi got into the box and knocked the ball past Samin who dropped a low cross in the 26th minute for Oduamadi to claim his second of the match with a tap in. Tahiti celebrated a goal in the 54th minute when Jonathan Tehau rose to head a corner kick in at the far post, but in the 68th minute the same player turned a ball in the 6-yard box past his own keeper and in the 76th minute Ideye played the ball in to Oduamandi who side-footed it in for his hat trick. Echiejile wrapped things up in the 80th minute when the keeper failed to deal with a low cross, but the last cheer went to Jonathan Tehau who beat the outrushing Nigerian keeper with a header that sailed narrowly wide of the post 2 minutes from time. |

Uruguay sail past Tahiti
(Uruguay 8 Haiti 0) Abel Hernandez netted 4 goals as Uruguay put 8 past Tahiti to secure a semi final place against hosts Brazil. After only 2 minutes Scotti flicked on a header from a corner kick for Hernandez to head in at the far post and in the 24th minute Hernandez picked up a through ball, lifted it over a defender and beat the keeper for his second. Three minutes later Perez got behind the defensive line, headed the ball past the keeper and onto the post before tapping it in over the line. On the stroke of half time Hernandez received the ball on the edge of the area, ran into the box and knocked it past the keeper for his hat trick. Four minutes into the second half Uruguay were awarded a penalty but Meriel saved an accurate but weak shot from Scotti whose misery was completed 2 minutes later when he committed a second yellow card offence and became the first player in the tournament to sent off. Tahiti were also reduced to 10 men when Ludivion was shown a second yellow in the 59th minute and 2 minutes later Uruguay extended their lead when Gargano drilled the ball into the 6-yard area for Lodeiro to knock in and 5 minutes later Hernandez sent Meriel the wrong way from the spot to make it 4 for himself and 6 for Uruguay. Suarez came on and made a late impact when he turned a defender inside out before rolling the ball past the keeper in the 82nd minute and in the 90th minute he received the ball from Hernandez on the edge of the area and picked the bottom corner to make it eight.

Alba brace seals Nigerian fate
(Spain 3 Nigeria 0) Spain ended Nigerian hopes of reaching the semi-finals with a 3-0 win over the African champions. Jordi Alba danced his way past several defenders in the box before slotting the ball past Enyeama in the 3rd minute. Enyeama had luck on his side in the 39th minute when he collected the ball off the post after being beaten by Fabrigas who had raced onto a low cross, but in the 62nd minute Torres scored with a diving header moments after coming on and Jordi Alba wrapped things up 2 minutes from time when David Villa sent him through on goal to round the keeper seal the win for Spain.
