Joy for Korea as Iran pay the penalty (South Korea 0 Iran 0) 4-2 on penalties
Lee Woon Jae saved twice in a penalty shoot-out, after Nekounam and Mahdavikia had come close to settling the match for Iran in extra time. South Korea who have sent an inexperienced squad to this tournament relied on their vastly experienced goalkeeper to stop the progress of a star studded Iranian side aiming for the title they have not won since 1976 when they lifted the cup for 3rd time in succession. The winning penalty was scored by Kim Do Heon.

Slick Saudis hold off Uzbeks (Saudi Arabia 2 Uzbekistan 1)
Saudi Arabia completed the semi-final line-up after beating Uzbekistan 2-1 in Jakarta. The Saudis got off to a perfect start when the ball came off the keeper and fell to Yasser Al Qahtani who obliged in the 2nd minute. Uzbekistan thought they had equalized in the 28th minute, but saw their effort disallowed for offside. After some neat touches by Saudi Arabia, Ahmed Al Mousa smashed the ball past the keeper in the 75th minute to give his team a 2 goal cushion lead. Uzbekistan pulled a goal back through Pavel Solomin with 9 minutes remaining when he bundled the ball over the line after Karimov's header from a tight angle had come off the post , and 2 minutes later Geynrikh struck the upright with a shot from outside the area, but Saudi Arabia held on to go through to the semi-finals where they meet Japan.
