Japan claim spot in semi (Japan 1 Australia 1) 4-3 on penalties
Japan knocked 10-man Australia out on penalties to reach the semi-finals of the Asian Cup. After a game of chess in the first half, the match livened up and an Australian corner kick in the 69th minute reached John Aloisi who stuck out a foot lofting the ball into the net, but 2 minutes later Takahara turned in the box and scored off the post to force extra time. Australia who had Grella dismissed for catching Takahara in the face, held on in extra time with Schwarzer making a vital reflex save in the 120 minute, but Kawaguchi saved 2 penalties from Kewell and Neill in the shoot-out to send the Socceroos packing.
