Echiejile stooped to meet a low Victor Moses cross with a diving header in the 25th minute and 5 minutes later Ideye Brown bundled another low cross past the Mali keeper at the near post. Just before the break Emenike's free-kick look a wicked deflection for the 3rd and Musa knocked the ball past the keeper for the 4th on the hour mark before Cheick Diarra swept home a consolation goal for Mali with 15 minutes to go.

Ghana run out of luck on penalties
Burkina Faso endured some controversial referring decisions before earning a place in the final on penalties. Shortly after the Burkinabe were denied a penalty Wakaso scored for Ghana from a soft 13th minute spot kick, but Bance stroked home an equaliser in the 60th minute to take the match to extra time where Burkina Faso had a goal disallowed and Pitroipa harshly sent off for diving in the box when a penalty would seem to have been the correct outcome. With Vorsah and Clotty having missed penalties in the shootout for Ghana, Daouda Diakite saved from Agyemang Badu to spark celebrations in Burkina Faso as they reach the final for the first time.

Mali third in Africa
For the second successive year Mali defeated Ghana in the third place play-off. Samassa found the corner of the Ghana net with a diving header in the 21st minute and 3 minutes after the break Samassa turned provider when he teed up Keita who doubled the lead from just outside the 6 yard area. Ten minutes later Wakaso fired his spot kick over the Mali crossbar, but Ghana reduced the deficit with 8 minutes to go when Asamoah's swerving shot caught Diakite short. In stoppage time a long ball took a bounce in the box where Diarra volleyed across goal into the far corner to seal bronze for Mali.
