Elephants start slowly

The Ivory Coast got of to a weak start with a 1-0 win over group minnows Sudan. The Ivoirian's expected dominance did not pay dividends until the 39th minute when Drogba got on the end of a Kalou cross to find the net with a header. Four minutes later Barry tipped a Mudather shot onto the crossbar, but that was the closest Sudan came and the second half produced very little to excite the crowd. (Ivory Coast 1 Sudan 0)

Angola pounce on Stallions' slip

Burkina Faso lost their first match to some poor defending and a stunning shot from Manucho. The match came to life 3 minutes into the 2nd half when Mateus picked the ball up from some sloppy defending and slotted it into the far corner. AlainTraore wrong-footed Fernandes from a free-kick to equalise for Burkina Faso in the 57th minute, but Manucho shook the back of the net while losing his balance outside the box in the 68th minute, and despite some late threats from Dagano, Angola held on to win. (Angola 2 Burkina Faso 1)
