Angola slip out

With many first-choice players rested, Ivory Coast defeated a complacent Angola to finish the group with a perfect record. Wilfried Bony delivered a low cross which was not sufficiently dealt with in defence allowing Eboue to slide in and convert at the far post putting the Elephants ahead in the 33rd minute, and in the 64th minute Massunguna headed the ball over the head of his onrushing keeper for Bony to run on and follow the ball into the empty net. Yeboah made a point blank save in the 77th minute to keep out a close-range header from Manucho as Angola battled to get back into the game. (Ivory Coast 2 Angola 0)

El Taib double upsets the table

Two goals from El Taib gave Sudan a rare win taking them through to the quarter-finals instead of Angola. Burkina Faso started well, but in the 33rd minute El Taib evaded a two-footed tackle and ran on to place the ball past Diakite in the Burkina Faso goal and in the 80th minute a long kick from Akram in the Sudan goal caught Diakite in no-man's-land and El Taib stole past him to roll the ball into the empty net. Six minutes into time-added-on, Dagano beat the Sudanese keeper to the ball and headed past him for a consolation goal. (Sudan 2 Burkina Faso 1)
