Ten Elephants march through

Ivory Coast became the first team to reach the knockout stages of the African Cup of Nations with a 3-1 win over Ghana despite having Eboue sent off early in the 2nd half. Ghana were caught on the break by Ivory Coast in the 23rd minute who passed the ball into the net with Gervinho getting the finishing touch. Asamoah turned and unleashed a brilliant shot from just outside the area in the 39th minute which Barry dived to palm away and prevent parity. Eboue received a straight red for a 2 footed tackle 10 minutes after the break and 2 minutes later a snapshot from Amoah came off the base of the post, but Ivory Coast survived and doubled their lead when Tiene beat Kingston with a curling free kick in the 67th minute. Keita tantalized the Ghana defence on the right before crossing the ball onto the head of Drogba who picked the corner of the netin the 90th minute. Deep into stoppage time Ghana were awarded a penalty and Asamoah Gyan stepped up to send Barry the wrong way for a consolation goal. Ghana now need a win against Burkina Faso to avoid elimination. (Ivory Coast 3 Ghana 1)
