African kings shoot down Eagles

The reigning champions of Africa came from behind to defeat Nigeria 3-1 in the opening match of group C. Obasi riffled the ball brilliantly past El Hadary from just inside the box in the 12th minute, but a swift counter attack allowed Moteab to beat the oncoming Enyeama and roll the ball into the empty net in the 34th minute. Ahmed Hassan smashed the ball past Enyeama with the aid of a deflection in the 54th minute and Egypt could have gone further ahead 6 minutes later when Moteab was through on goal but he fired over the bar. Geddo sealed victory for the Pharaohs when he drilled the ball into the bottom corner 3 minutes from time. (Egypt 3 Nigeria 1)

Squirrels pegged back

Mozambique fought back from 2 goals down to earn a point against the Squirrels of Benin. Omotoyossi who was brought down by the Mozambican keeper struck the spot kick down the middle of the goal in the 16th minute to give Benin the lead which they doubled 4 minutes later when Dario Khan stabbed the ball into his own net. Djidonou failed to punch away a corner kick in the 29th minute and Lobo lobbed his header into the back of the net to give Mozambique hope. A quickly taken throw-in in th e54th minute caught Djidonou out of position and Pelembe fed Fumo who put Mozambique on equal terms. The draw leaves both teams with little hope as they both prepare to meet Egypt and Nigeria in their remaining group matches. (Mozambique 2 Benin 2)
