Benin bow out

Needing a win to have any chance of progress the Squirrels of Benin showed very little appetite and were easily beaten 2-0 by Egypt. El Mohamady deceived Djidonou with a cross in the 7th minute that few over his head and into the top corner. Djidonou saved a header from Raouf pushing it onto the post but Moteeb knocked the loose ball over the line at the other post despite the efforts of the keeper to keep it out, and Egypt were 2 up with 23 minutes gone. Djidonou made several saves in the 2nd half to atone for his error with had lead to the first goal, but Benin never looked like troubling Egypt and the Egyptians finished top of the group with 3 wins. Super Eagles soar through

Goals from Odemwingie either side of the half and a late goal from Martins against Mozambique saw Nigeria through to the quarter-finals. Obasi showed intent with an angled shot in the 9th minute which Rafael got down to parry, and the same player missed a chance in the 24th minute while at the other end Paito showed promise for Mozambique. Odemwingie opened the scoring on the stroke of half time lashing the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the area, and 2 minutes into the 2nd half Yakubu ran into the box and passed the ball to Odemwingie who doubled his tally. With 5 minutes remaining Mikel robbed a defender and saw his shot parried by the keeper but the rebound fell to Obafemi Martins who sealed the 3-0 win for Nigeria. (Nigeria 3 Mozambique 0)
