Algeria grab narrow win

Algeria picked up their first points with a 1-0 win over Mali. Karim Ziani tested Diakite in the Mali goal with a shot in the 29th minute before Rafik Halliche got on the end of a free kick to head in Algeria's first goal of the competition 2 minutes before the break. With Mali not showing any signs of the amazing comebackibility they produced in their first match, Algeria held on the bag 3 vital points and keep their hopes alive. (Algeria 1 Mali 0)

Happy hosts go top

Two goals early in the 2nd half gave Angola a win to take them to the top of their group with one match remaining. Manucho almost squeezed the ball in between the keeper and the post with a volley from a Flavio cross in the 7th minute, and picked his spot with a shot in the 34th minute but was denied by the fingertips of the diving Sanudi in the Malawi goal. At the other end Wadabwa tested Carlos Fernandes with a cheeky backheel in the 41st minute, but 3 minutes after the interval Djalma delivered a superb cross for Flavio to find the corner of the net with a header and give Angola a lead which they doubled 6 minutes later when Manucho robbed a defender and fired the ball over the committed Sanudi. (Angola 2 Malawi 0)
