Egypt win to face Elephants

Egypt beat Angola 2-1 to reach the semi-finals of the competition where they will meet Ivory Coast as they did 2 years ago in the final. Hosny Abd Rabou sent the Angolan keeper the wrong way to convert a much contested penalty given for hand ball in the 23rd minute, but Manucho levelled the score with a 25-yard rocket 3 minutes later. A 38th minute cross went in off the chest of Amro Zaki to give Egypt a 2-1 half time lead. The second half was only 15 seconds old when Manucho dinked the ball past the keeper but wide of the post, and Manucho took a swing at the ball in the box which Al Hadari got down to save. Lama in the Angola goal did well 2 minutes later to bravely block an effort from Moteab. The Angolan keeper parried a scorching shot from Fathi in the 74th minute and kept out a strike from Hassan with 5 minutes to go. (Egypt 2 Angola 1)

Tunisia comeback in vain

Tunisia came back from 2 goals down, but went out to Cameroon in extra time. A header from Makoun bounced wide of the Tunisia post in the 5th minute and 5 minutes later Chikhaoui shoots across the face of the Cameroon goal and past the post. In the 19th minute Tunisian keeper Kasraoui failed to make contact with a cross allowing Stéphane Mbia to head into the unguarded net. Cameroon extended their lead with a beautifully taken free-kick from Njitap Geremi in the 28th minute, but 7 minutes later Chaoukhi Ben Saada curled his free-kick skilfully past Kameni to reduce the defisit. Dos Santos smashed the ball against the crossbar in the 41st minute but Carlos Kameni showed agility to get down and keep out Ben Saada's rasping shot from the rebound. With only 9 minutes left Ben Frej played the ball to Yassine Chikhaoui who swung a first- time shot into the corner of the net to force extra time. Tunisia tested Kameni one more time before extra time with a fierce shot from Traoui in the 87th minute which the keeper did well to hold on to. Three minutes into extra time, the ball fell to Mbia who swiftly turned to score the decider with a low volley from close-range. Cameroon go on to meet the hosts Ghana for a place in the final. (Cameroon 2 Tunisia 2 - extra time 3-2)
