Cameroon devour Zambia

With their future in this year's competition in doubt after losing in the first match, the indomnible Lions of Cameroon bounced back to take Zambia apart. Geremi bent the ball in splendidly from a free-kick in the 28 minute and 4 minutes later poor defending gifted Job with the simple task of finding the net with the goal at his mercy and only Mweene to beat. Eto'o hit the ball on the volley in the 40th minute but saw it whistle over the crossbar, but in the 44th minute Alexandre Song slotted the ball through to the unmarked Emana who coolly side-footed Mweene to make it 3 by half time. Samuel Eto'o became joint top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations history when he tucked away a 65th minute penalty after his free-kick had struck a hand in the wall. Zambia came close in the 74th minute when Chris Katongo's looping header came off the crossbar, but Cameroon were presented with another gift in the 82nd minute when Hachilensa headed the ball back into the path of Job, who walked the ball into the net for his 2nd and Cameroon's 5th. Zambia did not give up the fight and with a minute to go Chris Katongo slid in to steer the ball past Kameni for a consolation goal. (Cameroon 5 Zambia 1)

Egypt break Sudan down

Egypt were made to work for their win against Sudan. The Sudanese tested Essam El Hadari in the Egypt goal several times before Hosny Rabou sent Elmuez Mugoub the wrong way from a retaken penalty in the 29th minute. Elmuez Mugoub did well to get down and deny Zidan's angled shot in the 55th minute, but a minute later Mohamed Aboutrika replaced Zidan who had received a bruised shoulder, and coolly finished off a three-man move in the 76th minute. Aboutrika ran into the area 6 minutes later, waited for the keeper to commit himself, and scored at the near post. (Egypt 3 Sudan 0)
